Common is too normal, what knowledge is to wisdom, which among other things is potentially dangerous. You need to realize, that just as knowledge in no way equal’s wisdom, common in no way equals normal. What makes this dangerous is when people start interchanging “common” with normal, as this is when people start taking it for granted that if something is common, than it can be construed as normal, when in actuality this is not normal; this is complacency, which carries its own hidden dangers that have nothing to do with normal.
You need to be mindful and cautious of these false common/ normal comparisons and to not allow life changing decisions based on the outcomes of them. Do not become complacent in your thinking; be sure to always question that which you are not sure of. Do not ride on society’s beliefs without proving them, especially when talking about your life, also remember that it does not matter how many people believe something, because belief does not create truth, truth should create belief. So remain mindful to not become part of a group mindset that is harmfully wrong, as you will be learning new truths about common and normal and you need to be sure that they are not being used interchangeably, or to replace complacency.
One thing for sure is that it is not normal to think that it is okay to experiment with or use harmful substances, just because it is common. Common means many are doing it, which does not mean that it is safe, even if it is acceptable by many.
Remember that no one plans on becoming addicted to, or on dying from alcohol, but the more false truths that we use to justify how common it is, the more acceptable and common addiction and death will become, common yes, normal no, as alcohol is commonly involved in damaging or ending lives and one drink, one night, one more and one party can very easily end a life and yet, so many sit back calling drinking normal, because it is common and it is legal. So many cower under common complacency, instead of standing on the courage and truth that societies were built upon; before the dangerous, legal, common rights of this poison infected our society.
